How to Create Waypoints in Pathfinder Office 4.1 or Higher

Creating Waypoints in Pathfinder Office  4.1(PFO)

 

Option 1:  Input single points

 

1)     Open a project in PFO

2)     Set the coordinate system  (Options/Coordinate Systems)

  1. Make sure your units are correct

3)     Go to File/Waypoints/New

4)     Give your waypoint file a name

5)     Click on Create

6)     Name your point and enter your coordinates

  1. If you don’t know the elevation or you aren’t worried about it, type in 0

7)     Click on Save to store the point.

8)     Repeat steps 5 – 7 to add other points

 

 

Option 2:  Import an ASCII file

 

1)     Create an ASCII file (.asc, .cvs, .tsv, or .txt)

  1. Make sure to at least include Northing/Latitude, Easting/Longitude, Description

 

2)     Select File/waypoints/ASCII import

 

3)     Select file you want to import and click OPEN

  1. Input File Format
    1.                                                     i.     Type in your input file format (see help menu for examples
      1. N = Northing
      2. E = Easting
      3. U = USNG Coordinate
      4. Z = Elevation
      5. D = Description
      6. –   = Field not imported

 

  1. Do not import rows starting with (See Help Menu)

 

  1. Start import at row
    1.                                                     i.     Use this if you have some type of header in the file

 

4)     Select the coordinate system for the waypoints

 

5)     Click on OK

 

 

Transferring to the data collector

 

1)     Connect data collector to computer via USB or Serial cable

2)     Click on the data transfer icon, or go to Utilities/Data Transfer

3)     Make sure your device type is correct

4)     Click on the Green Check to connect device…if it isn’t already connected

5)     Click on the Send tab

6)     Click Add, then waypoints

7)     OK, and Transfer all.

 

 

 

Navigating to waypoints in TerraSync

 

1)     Open TerraSync

2) Go to the Navigation Menu

3) Under the Nav button you will see Navigate

4) Click the dropdown arrow next to Navigate and choose Waypoints

5)     Highlight the waypoint file and click on open

 

Navigation Option 1:

 

1)     Under the Data menu

2)     Highlight the point that you would like to navigate to

3)     Click on Options/Set Nav Target/ and click on your point

– This will put 2 flags in front of the waypoint

4)     You can either go to the Navigation Menu or the Map menu to Nav to the points

 

Navigation Option 2:

 

1)     Under the Map menu

2)     Select a point on the map

3)     Click on Options/Set Nav Target/ and click on your point

–        This will put 2 flags in front of the waypoint

5)     Start walking towards your point
