FAA RELEASES UAS RULES THAT BENEFIT TRIMBLE UX5, UX5 HP AND ZX5 CUSTOMERS

Below is some information that Trimble put together regarding the new FAA UAS rules.

FAA New UAS Rules

The FAA has released new rules governing the use of small (sub-55lbs/25kg) UAS in US airspace.  These rules clarify the ongoing requirements to safely and legally operate commercial UAS in the United States.  These rules will benefit Trimble UX5, UX5 HP, and ZX5 customers as they apply to all of these aircraft types.  Customers will now be able to purchase these aircraft without obtaining a 333-exemption once the rules are in effect in August 2016, although it remains the responsibility of the customer to familiarize themselves with and comply with the FAA rules at all times.  More information about the new small rules can be found at this link:  www.faa.gov/uas

A notable development in the rules is that a remote pilot in command is required instead of a pilot.  A person operating a small UAS must either hold a remote pilot airman certificate with a small UAS rating or be under the direct supervision of a person who does hold a remote pilot certificate (remote pilot in command).

In general these rules will make commercial UAS operation easier in US airspace and allow customers to confidently operate their UAS with an established regulatory framework.
