Input Waypoints in Pathfinder Office

• Option 1:  Input single points
  1. Open a project in PFO
  2. Set the coordinate system  (Options/Coordinate Systems)
  • Make sure your units are correct
  1. Go to File/Waypoints/New
  2. Give your waypoint file a name
  3. Click on Create
  4. Name your point and enter your coordinates
     • If you don’t know the elevation or you aren’t worried about it, type in 0
  5. Click on Save to store the point.
  6. Repeat steps 5 – 7 to add other points
• Option 2:  Import an ASCII file for PFO version 3.1 or earlier
  1. Create an ASCII file following these rules
  • Records are in the order
    • Longitude, Latitude, Height (optional), text (optional)  OR
    • East, North, Elevation (optional), text (optional)
  • Fields are separated by commas or spaces and each record begins on a new line
  • Text must be enclosed in double quotation marks
  • Format of longitude and latitude is decimal degrees
  • Ex. -122.10014, 37.26642, 12, “TREE”
  1. Select File/waypoints/ASCII import
  2. Select file you want to import and click OPEN
  3. Select the coordinate system for the waypoints
  4. Click on OK
• Transferring to the data collector
  1. Connect data collector to computer via USB or Serial cable
  2. Click on the data transfer icon, or go to Utilities/Data Transfer
  3. Make sure your device type is correct
  4. Click on the Green Check to connect device…if it isn’t already connected
  5. Click on the Send tab
  6. Click Add, then waypoints
  7. OK, and Transfer all.

• Opening the waypoint file

1. Go to the Navigation Menu

2. Under the Nav button you will see Navigate

3. Click the dropdown arrow next to Navigate and choose Waypoints

4. Highlight the waypoint file and click on Open
